ARCHITECTURE AND FASHION

I am always bemused when former classmates from Arch school seem surprised to find out that I run a personal style blog. I mean what is so shocking about that? As any design aficionado will tell you, there is a very close link between the disciplines of architecture and fashion.  Unlike most art forms say sculpture or painting, these two aren't merely concerned with the aesthetics of the finished product but its functionality too. *Form follows Function* is a mantra commonly heard during desk crits in studio and I bet you Tim Gunn thinks it too when he's giving sage advice to the aspiring designers on Project Runway.

7 - ELEVEN

~~~
… Oooh wee be-be freaky deaky
Think me see she pink bikini
Rock that groovy dye dashiki
Nefertiti, edges kinky
Sweatin’ out my blow out,
Sweatin’ out my press …
~~~

Today’s post was inspired by one of my favourite songs to work out to, Queen Bey’s 7 Eleven. It actually started out as a coincidence that I took out my braids just before we filmed a clip for our YouTube channel The Talk256 set at the pool and that’s how I found myself in a pink bikini with my edges kinky.

ALL BLACK & BLUE

I'm all about the Red + Blue combo lately
I have to start off with a confession;  my mum HATED this look. See the top is actually this dress I last wore 2 years ago and when I walked in (it was my muffin's grad party and I was seated at the high table) she immediately WhatsApped something along the lines of what a bore I was for cutting the dress!

PAPLERAYN & CANDLE-IT LAUNCH

This has been a long time in coming but it makes up for it by being picture heavy. Boy is it picture heavy! I can't even promise to caption them all! Lets start by setting the mood;

Me gallivanting all over the place in between stints of working the Candle-It station. My outfit is a crop top and skirt combo from Warehouse (originally a dress but I felt it veered a little twee for the occasion so I took scissors to it and got a good tailor and voila!)

This picture was when I realized I need to switch to a matte foundation. I'm all shine instead of glow.

I'm pretty certain the long face here was due to noticing how shiny I was in the pic above.

First look at the entire outfit. These shoes are the most comfortable heels in my closet right now and feature in nearly 50% of my outfit combinations. Available to order from www.paplerayn.com

Back to the candle station. I had to be here else people were going to take a bite outta them thinking they were real cupcakes. *True story*

THE DECOR

The event was held at Bodaboda Garden City Rooftop and was a Red Carpet affair.

Candle-It supplied the decor and as night fell, candles in mason jars outline the mini-runway.

Couldn't resist taking a pic of this beautiful light fixture that cast such amazing geometric shadows

But enough of that, you want to see the fashion, right? Let's dive in then. All outfits showcased are available to order from the Paple Rayn website

Blogger for Android App sucks

Happy 2nd half of 2014!!! This was supposed to be my grand return about being MIA for so long. I had a post drafted out and everything! Basically recapping whative been up to these past few months and culminating into the Paple Rayn Launch! This this genius app deleted instead of publishing!

I have never felt so let down by technology since I lost my final essay I'd worked on all semester on the morning of submission! It was all I could do not to smash my laptop and tear out my hair and run naked for thehills. This is a close second.

Anyhow I'll probably rewrite it and post it up but I had to post something today -  this year has flown by on Concorde level speed! Blink and we'll be in 2015! Have a great last 6 months of 2014 and if you know how to activate the autosave before publish option on Blogger for Android app please clue me in.

COMING SOON ...

Purple Rain Fashion Uganda - the coolest online shop ever this side of the Sahara. Had a professional photoshoot and all for the web site and I will share the pics on here too as soon as the photogs finish touching them up.
In the meantime, you'll have to make to with the ones I snapped with my little 16mp cammy.

In the interest of full disclosure, y'all need to know that I had just run 10k in a little over 80mins so wasn't at my smiziest best. My muscles were planning a mutiny and all the rest of me wanted to do was sleep for 3 days straight! But at least I did my part in helping MTN & Co. get clean water to Karamoja :)

All Accessories available soon at Purple Rain

 Still on the topic of the marathon, I didn't see much point in painting my tootsies as they wouldn't be on display. So when the photogs decided they had an opening just an hour after I came close to beating Kiprotich and was in definitive #BeastMode, a pedicure was out of the question.

The Jay Manuels and Patrick DeMarchelier to my Tyra Banks ;)
