Blogger for Android App sucks

Happy 2nd half of 2014!!! This was supposed to be my grand return about being MIA for so long. I had a post drafted out and everything! Basically recapping whative been up to these past few months and culminating into the Paple Rayn Launch! This this genius app deleted instead of publishing!

I have never felt so let down by technology since I lost my final essay I'd worked on all semester on the morning of submission! It was all I could do not to smash my laptop and tear out my hair and run naked for thehills. This is a close second.

Anyhow I'll probably rewrite it and post it up but I had to post something today -  this year has flown by on Concorde level speed! Blink and we'll be in 2015! Have a great last 6 months of 2014 and if you know how to activate the autosave before publish option on Blogger for Android app please clue me in.

CONSIDER THIS A BOOKMARK

HAPPY 2014! It's almost a year since I started this particular blog and what a year it was! Short of getting engaged/pregnant/Masters degree I think I experienced everything a twentysomething does!
I have big hopes for this year (don't I always?) and since most of my ventures are collaborative efforts, chances are high that my natural tendency to procrastinate won't get in the way!

This view you guys!!! This view! Its something else I tell you. I even entered this picture in the #HolidaysAtHomeUg promotion so go over to http://thepearlguide.co.ug/holidaysathome/ and vote for me! I took so many more breathtaking pics at the Source of the Nile, Jinja but the promo rules are you have to be in the pic so this is what we are working with.
A collage of the second half of my holiday (1st half back home in Entebbe was basically an eat+read+watch movie+sleep orgy): I moved into new digs, went gift shopping (read spent ages trying on outfits and taking selfies) with Terri, ate a lot - A WHOLE LOT - this is in fact going to be a post of its own, toured Jinja - this place has more hotels/Guesthouses than Entebbe!!!
Picture on right is four days before the left and I think I gained about 3 pounds in the interval! No worries though, living with my vegan bro should make shedding the pounds a piece of cake!
I'm still hangover from the best christmas break ever so I'm not really back in blogging mode hence the bookmark but figured I out to say something about the new year before that got stale. Toodles!

A medley of this and that.

I have been so busy lately trying to come up with a proposal for a nationwide architectural design competition that I literally had no free time! I'd just get home to tired to even have dinner or shower (what, I spend all day indoors *defiant look*) and just hit the sack! So of course my proposed set design series had to wait a bit. In the meantime...

When first I saw Claire Julien's outfit I was prepared to hate it! I thought she was wearing a plain nude halter neck dress beneath the embroidered shorter netted one. Then I realised the embroidery was on the nude dress and that it had a sexy low back while the top dress just had visible seams and that cross thing going on in the front. And that was when I fell in love. Now I'm on the hunt for the perfect long sleeved net dress to throw on to of my skin bearing clingy dresses in an attempt at false modesty. Genius.

Can't hardly wait to watch the Bling Ring if only for the fact that it gave Paris Hilton a legit reason to show up on the Red Carpet again. And also to see Emma Watson play a spoiled hollywood kid which i think a part of me actually wants her to be. But not the kind that robs Paris because...come on.

Whi is this perfectly made up and coiffed lady with nary a mismatched shoe and satin lips purse in sight???
Also Helena Bonham Carter covered British Vogue and she looked divine if a lot unlike her eccentric self. What with having separate but adjoining homes with Tim Burton I'm convinced real Helena is mixture of the characters she plays - equal parts Bellatrix, the murderess in Demon Barber, and the queen of hearts. So great cover but gosh, I can barely see HER in it!

Now this is the HBC we all know and love.

Speaking of Tim Burton collaborators, Johnny Depp turned 50! He looks more and more like the 60 year old man I'm supposed to marry in 10 years time. Just saying.

I mean ... right?

This is the perfect mix of Indiana Jones and nerdy professor.

I don't even hate the moth eaten T-shirt beneath that cardy that looks like a cross between a leather vest and a granddad sweater. Which says a lot about his face because this shit is terrible.

No thanks. Even I draw a line somewhere
This jacket!!!!!! Seriously? How much work does this guy put in to look this horrible??? And most importantly, why?

I take back what I said, 50 year old Johnny Depp looks nothing like my future hubby!

Also the CFDA Awards happened and the folder has been sitting on my desktop for so long I can't caption all the pics. Nicole Richie was my best dressed. Was happy to see Michael Kors and Nina Garcia in the same room outside of Project Runway and imagined them critiquing then RC outfits as if it was what the Project Runway designers had spent a day labouring over. Anyway I'll let the pics speak for themselves. Off home to watch The Face! Laters reader(s)!

Someone ought to make an Academy Award size wax sceptre of her and dip it in gold and let that be the new statuette for some achievement or something because this perfection deserves to be replicated, immortalised and displayed!

Miranda Kerr was my next best dressed. I immediately scoured the inter webs for images of her from all angles and saved them in my DIY folder. Now looking for the perfect batik print to DIY a similar look.

Karlie's hair looks so slicked with gel and immobile in this picture. Like a seal.

A little disappointed Nina Garcia went in for pants when obviously she had a selection of custom made gowns to choose from. I mean, whats the point of being a judge on Project Runway if you can't set your important red carpet looks as challenges for the designers.

I'm in a very shorts wearing mood lately so I'm loving this look!

Wet Seal. And now her bodice looks like an oil spill. Her mani though is to die for!

Menswear Award winner Thom Browne (almost typed Thom Mayne. Those two should design for each other, Mayne the tasteful sustainable home and Browne the cutting edge menswear of course.) and Matt Crawley with his cool shoes were pretty much the only guys worth discussing. But like I said, I've been scrolling through this gallery for so long I'm all worded out.

Vergara though... how we've come a long way from the blonde days of "Chasing Papi"

Smash has made me nostalgic

Yesterday I decided to stop this nonsense of working during my leave and then complaining of being drained and lethargic when I get back to office so I switched off my phone, switched on the telly and pulled my stash of accumulated series and the remote next to me. I then proceeded to spend the next 16 hours in legit couch potato mode, only shifting to refill on snacks or fluff my pillow! It was bliss! Simple unadulterated me time just the way I like it. I got through  three first seasons but this particular post was inspired by Smash!

I love Marilyn Monroe, who doesn't? But the entire 15 episodes I was really rooting for anything other than Katherine McPhee's character to play her! I just couldn't stand that nice girl Cartright thing she had going on! It was sooooo irritating! Please understand I'm not complaining about the writing here. No, the writing was superb! Smash is everything Glee wishes it could be! A legit show about a fictional musical. My issue is with Katherine McPhee's face! She is just too nice-girl looking. (Also this entire paragraph was a tangent from what I'd originally set out to write about. That's how much that Iowa girl nagged me!)

Anyway, all the Marilyn talk made me nostalgic for the old hollywood era so I figured this is as good a time as any to post these love quotes I've had in a folder on my desktop for ages. Enjoy and happy week!

The cougars' motto

Hahaha. Yes!

Passion or affection, no brainer right? (I always want the end that makes a better story)

I love this quote and I almost can't believe it was said by a man. It's very Dorothy Parker-esque

I think her logic lost me

Couldn't have said it better even if I'd tried

A man after my own heart

Around the web in nifty ways

What's a girl to do when her blog gets faulty? Rant and rant and rant!
I was on a roll there! Then this happened! Aaargh.
Trust me once I get everything ironed out, you're going to be hit by an avalanche of posts!

Til then let's kill time with this edition of Around The Web In Nifty Ways, let's start it off by checking out my professional blog, which I had abandoned once I landed a job I love but now forced to revisit because wordpress doesn't suck balls like blogger does! (Yes, I have blogs/accounts on every platform you can imagine; tumblr, LinkedIn, InstaGram, LiveMocha, GChat...all of them. Multiple accounts for some... Including myspace and hotmail - way back I even forgot my passwords. So blogger really should style up since I chose it out of so many!)

Apparently, there is such a thing as reinventing the wheel people. This totally made me think of The Dragon's Den which is such a fun watch for a show where intimidation millionaire entrepreneurs basically trash people's life work in a matter of minutes. Such interesting inventions out there in the world, you just have to think hard at it.

Not like the MyZiki, Ug's version of iTunes when we very well have youtube and waptrick and a gazillion other free download apps/sites no to mention  the artistes themselves giving out begging people to play their music. Study your market people...you really think a Ugandan would pay $1.00 for a song Capital FM plays 40 times an hour? I just don't think it'd work...now if they did a Ug version of Craig'sList on the other hand...

This link actually was meant to be a post all on its own because it's about the amazing Tilda Swinton who is basically my favoritest androgynous person ever (have you seen Tilda channeling Bowie? You should!)and who I never thought I'd pity til I watched We need to talk about Kevin. That movie is like a mother's worst nightmare. But I digress. Anyway, lucky NewYorkers can check out her display "The Maybe" (I'm looking at you Ali, take a break from the MOS ;) and check out the MOMA) which showcases her sleeping in a glass box. Which I think is an intimate as it gets! Even more than sex, sleeping is so so personal because you literally have no idea/control over what you're doing!

And in more Hollywood news, a biopic of Oscar Pistorius and his late model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is in the works with about two scripts making the rounds of studios and casting agents already rooting for Gosling and Theron to play the eponymous athlete and his fated girlfriend. I die. Sorry. But I and a million others called it way back when the news broke.  Just as I called the Barefoot Bandit movie and up to now nothing has surfaced...or did I miss it?

And now I come to the end of my ramblings. Please blogger, get your act together, this little blogger loves her pics.

Ducking for Apples

Oh, the title has nothing to do with this post. I just always find I can take any quote of Dorothy Parker and randomly insert it into my day and it will make perfect sense. Speaking of DP, in an ideal world, I'd develop and alter ego to write this blog that would be a combination of Dorothy Parker, Frieda Kahlo, Lena Dunham, Solange and Warsan Shire. It would be insanely epic! In fact, that is my answer to the question "If you were to have dinner with any 5 women, living or dead, who would they be and why?" I doubt I'd contribute anything worthwhile to the conversation except swap hair tips with Solange and Warsan while keeping my ears alert to catch Kahlo and Parker sound bites while Lena catches them up to how the millenials do it.

Stalling and wishful thinking aside, I'm trying to sort through the gazillion pics of randoms I took at the wedding on Saturday in order to come up with tomorrow's post. It ain't no easy task believe me! And after that I have the Baftas, the Grammy's and NYFW pics to browse and come up with an inspiration board. All on top of my day job! Mercy me! Now I know why once they start making money off it, the best bloggers make it their full time job! Anyway, til then, I figure if you're anything like me, you'll find it epic that Helen Mirren's new pink rinse was inspired by Lil Sophie of ANTM 18. In the Dame's own words...

For the umpteenth the, when I grow up, I want to be this!!!

Also this happened last week. Kidman and Oldman on the same couch! Hah!
